Old Naval Hospital plans win easy approval

From the Voice of the HIll web site
After years of planning, city historic preservation officials today unanimously gave preliminary approval to the design for the renovation of the Old Naval Hospital at 921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE. They have not yet scheduled a final vote on the plan.

“It came to me that this is preservation at its best,” said Tersh Boasberg, chair of the city’s Historic Preservation Review Board. “We are delighted to see a project of this kind coming to fruition.”

Built in 1866 during the Civil War, the Old Naval Hospital is set to realize a new life as the Hill Center, a community space that will host classes, meetings, events and nonprofit office space, along with a café in its carriage house to help fund the facility.
